They are grown worldwide for their edible fruit, variously known as squash, pumpkin, or gourd. Squash comes in two types, Summer and Winter.
Summer squash are thin-skinned with a lighter, moist flesh. They are best eaten fresh. Courgettes are the most popular summer squash.
Winter squash have a harder skin and dense flesh with a more intense flavour. They can be stored for a few months, sometimes up to a year after harvest. Pumpkins and Butternuts are the most famous of the winter squashes.
Jack Be Little are little jack o lanterns! They are about the size of a tennis ball, great for smaller spaces and make wonderful environmentally friendly halloween decorations which can be eaten later.
