Swiss Chard is a type of Beet grown specifically for its large, tasty leaves and stems.

It has dark green leaves with pure white stems and is very easy to grow.

Baby leaves are used in salad, large leaves are used like spinach and stems can be used like celery or steamed.

 

Sow March - July 2.5 cm (1 in) deep in modules or direct.

For baby leaf sow thinly in drills 2.5cm deep and thin to 10cm(4 in) apart in rows 20cm(8 in) apart.

Full size plants should be 30 cm (12 in) apart in rows 45 cm(18 in) apart.

 

Harvest by cutting stems just above the ground, regular harvesting should extend cropping.

 

Keep well watered and cover with fleece/cloche in winter.
