Sow; March - May
Harvest; July - October
Nasturtiums are great edible plants. The leaves and flowers pack a peppery punch in a salad and the seeds are often used as an alternative to capers. They are also highly ornamental and look great in the garden or allotment.
Nasturtiums are very easy to grow, they germinate quickly and do not require much attention.
This pack contains nasturtiums of mixed colours and a trailing habit.
Flowers from summer till the frosts kill them.
They attract pollinating insects like bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. They also attract aphids and cabbage white butterflies, so are often used as sacrificial plants to lure the aphids and cabbage whites away from your valuable crops.
Trailing nasturtiums make great ground cover plants to keep weeds at bay.
Nasturtiums deter squash beetles, cucumber beetles and other vine boring pests so are an asset in the vegetable garden.
Possible companions, Apple, Beans, Cabbage, Kale, Broccoli, Potatoes, Pumpkin, Radish, Squash, Sweetcorn, Tomato and Sunflower.
Sow March-May about 3cm deep undercover and plant out after last frost.
Soaking seeds in water overnight prior to planting may speed germination, but nasturtium seeds sprout best when the soil is warm.
Direct sow in May about 3cm deep and 8cm apart. Thin to 30 cm apart in all directions.
OUR SEEDS ARE SPECIALLY SELECTED FOR UK CONDITIONS AND SOURCED FROM ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE, SOIL ASSOCIATED ORGANIC GROWERS.
