Green manures help to improve soil structure and stop soil from eroding or leaching nutrients while not in use. They are usually dug into the ground before flowering to add organic matter to the soil but can also be mulched on the surface or even composted, depending upon your style of gardening.
Phacelia is a quick growing annual with abundant lacy foliage. The leaves are good at suppressing weeds while the roots help to break up and aerate the soil.
Sow from March – September
Remove any weeds and rake over the ground to get a fairly good tilth. Scatter the seed over evenly and lightly rake in. Water the seedlings if the weather is very dry.
Dig in or mulch out 6-8 weeks after sowing and, for best results, before flowering. Leave some to flower for the bees if you have space but do not let it seed.
OUR SEEDS ARE SPECIALLY SELECTED FOR UK CONDITIONS AND SOURCED FROM ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE, SOIL ASSOCIATED ORGANIC GROWERS.
ALL OUR PACKAGING IS 100% RECYCLABLE, BIODEGRADABLE AND COMPOSTABLE.
