ORGANIC Garlic 'Elephant'
Sold per clove
Sow: September - October
Harvest: Late May - June
Elephant garlic is impressive in size; as the name suggests, they can grow over 150cm in height. The bulbs grow big, but the flavour is slightly milder in comparision to other garlic varieties. Harvest huge bulbs the following year.
Elephant garlic prefers a spot in full sun and good drainage, as this will eradicate the chances of rust, which can reduce the growing period and spoil the leaves, but will not affect the bulbs.
Garlic has a short dormancy so will not keep for extended periods of time, for this reason, it is recommended you sow your garlic as soon as possible and keep it as a bulb in an airtight container in a cool dark place until you are ready to sow.
Top Tips:
Plant near bean and/or peas for bigger bulbs.
Ensure you water regularly during dry periods.
To Sow:
When ready to sow, remove individual cloves and plant 5cm deep and 15cm apart in full sun with good drainage. Water in the morning if necessary, remove flowers from stalks, and keep the area around bulbs weed-free.
Harvest: when bulbs are plump and half of the leaves appear dry on a sunny day if possible.
Place garlic in an airy dry place and once dry, remove soil and trim roots.
Packaging: The packaging and labels for Garlic Rustisem is 100% biodegradable
