Celeriac is a root vegetable, closely related to celery with a tough skin and crisp, pale cream flesh which has a delicate celery like flavour. Delicious grated raw into salads, in stews and soups, mashed or roasted.
Easier to grow than celery.
Monarch is a large celeriac with a mild and nutty, celery taste and very firm, white flesh.
It is very good for storing.
Sow from february to April in a tray/modules in a propagator or warm windowsill.
Pot on when the first true leaves have formed.
Harden off and transplant to final position from May.
Plant 30cm apart and so that the base of the plant is just above soil level.
Keep well watered.
