Beetroots are easy to grow and usually grown for their taproots but can also be used for their leaves which can be used in salad when young and like spinach when older.
Detroit 2 is an improved version of the traditional/heirloom variety ‘Detroit’ which was first introduced in 1892. It has delicious, deep crimson red, globe shaped roots with superb texture and flavour. It does not have the uniformity of most modern beetroots, producing smaller and larger roots, making it less popular in agriculture but great for garden/allotment use.
Sow 5cm (2 in) apart at a depth of 13mm (½ in) in rows 30cm (12 in) apart.
Beetroot produce cluster seeds so each seed can produce several plants which should be thinned out to leave the strongest seedling.
Our seeds are specially selected for UK conditions and sourced from environmentally responsible, soil-associated organic growers.
All our packaging is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable.
