Mustard leaves are members of the Brassica family and are very hardy. They can be grown throughout the winter, even under snow.
Giant Red is a very attractive variety of mustard leaf, with beautiful big leaves purple. It has a strong punchy flavour. It is highly productive, slow to bolt and extremely hardy making it an invaluable salad leaf to use year-round. Can be grown as cut and come again, the more mature leaves will be hotter.
Sow little and often for a continuous crop throughout the year. Plants are slow to bolt but we find summer crops are best grown in a shadier spot. During the colder months, seeds should be sown undercover.
Seeds should be sown in modules at 0.5 - 1cm deep or directly at 20cm apart in rows 45 cm apart.
