Green manures help to improve soil structure and stop soil from eroding or leaching nutrients while not in use. They are usually dug into the ground before flowering to add organic matter to the soil but can also be mulched on the surface or even composted, depending upon your style of gardening.
It is a legume with some nitrogen fixing ability and foliage for suppressing weeds. bees love the beautiful crimson flowers. Not very hardy.
Sow from Mar-Jun or Aug(for overwintering in a milder winter/climate) Remove weeds and rake over the ground to a fairly good tilth. Scatter the seed evenly & lightly rake in. Water during dry weather. Dig in or Mulch when ground is needed.
